Don’t Shoot the Messenger

In collaboration with Wirksworth Festival, 2010

A site-specific binaural audio sound walk for Wirksworth Festival based on the notion of a pigeon’s perspective looking down from the rooftops onto the town of Wirksworth.

The sound walk takes the form of a tour guide taking listeners past shops, houses, and the church yard and up hills to enjoy viewpoints across the town. It also includes music and interviews with local residents and commuters who describe Wirskworth’s history.

The sound walk was produced using in-ear microphones, worn by the artist as she walked the route that the listener recreates. With the artists voice acting as a narrator to describe her surroundings and provide directional instructions.  Headphones and mp3 players were available to visitors during Wirksworth festival in 2010.

Listen to Don’t Shoot the Messenger.

All tracks have been recorded using in-ear microphones to produce binaural audio recordings and need to be listened to with stereo headphones. Click here for a map of the route in Wirksworth.
