Printed Landscapes
A collection of monotype prints inspired by the landscape and wildlife of Cove, created as part of a week-long artist residency at Cove Park, West Coast of Scotland in 2017.
Cove is a rural location spanning 50-acres overlooking Loch Long, the Cowal Peninsula and the Firth of Clyde. The artist studio is positioned in the perfect location to observe the changing light, textures, movement and colours of the environment.
The artist residency provided the time and space to explore the landscape, by taking sound recordings and photographs, gathering images of wildlife (birds, sheep and deer) via camera traps and a thermal camera and collecting natural objects. These images and recordings contributed to the development of over fifty new prints.
A selection of monoprints are shown below, these were produced using a printing press and a variety of techniques including stencils, drawing, scraping, colour overlapping and using objects to block out colour including natural objects and chalk. The prints demonstrate a similar composition and colour tone with areas of light and dark to reflect the changeable weather.
